I woke up this morning a half an hour before my alarm clock went off thinking about getting ready for my half marathon.  I know you can’t cram for a half marathon, but that’s not going to stop me from trying.  I decided to walk 5 miles today.  I don’t know where that came from, but it sounded like a good number.  I text my lil sis and asked her to walk with me in the park.  (I didn’t tell her how far).  I got up and went to the computer to research before I got dressed for church.  I googled “5 miles and Forest Park” and I found this great page, that had it all mapped out for me.  After church, I went to the nail shop because I totally forgot that I needed fill-in before I leave to go out of town for work tomorrow.  Finally, I came home and got geared up for my walk.  My little sister and I went to Forest Park.  It was fine, the sun was shining, it was a nice day for early March in St. Louis; almost 70 degrees.  We power walked, and walked and walked some more.  After about 3 miles, my body was like okay, great, that’s what you’re used to; however, we had 2 more miles to go.  The 4th mile was little tough, I had to keep telling my lil sis come on, catch up.  Finally the Nike iPod lady said I had 1 mile to go. We kept walking for what seemed like forever…5 miles is a really really long way.  Then we finally made it.  It was hard, but it wasn’t excruciating.  We walked for so long, that sun started to go down and it started to get chilly outside.  My little sister said “I’m hot and cold all at the same time.”  We were sweating, but it was getting kinda cold.   We eventually made it back to my car, and my iPod tracker  said I walked 4.98 miles.  I’ve needed to recalibrate it since forever.  But all I could think was how crappy it would look to post my pic saying 4.98 miles instead of 5.  So just for you guys, I walked in circles around the parking lot until Lance Armstrong said I reached my 5 Mile goal, and achieved my longest walk ever! I did it! 5 Whole Miles!  It’s still weird, but for the rest of the day, I just casually told people like the skinny people do, “oh yeah, I walked 5 miles today.”

  1. I am so proud of myself, I actually walked 4 miles twice in New York City and I didn’t even realize until my boss told me at work. She is originally from New York and I told her, how my friends and I walked from 31st Street to 49th Street, which is from our hotel to Madison Square Garden to pick up our tickets for the Knicks game. She was like, what you walked and you didn’t catch a taxi? I said no, why? She said do you realize that you walked 2 miles there and 2 miles back. I said, really? So we actually walked 4 miles to/from getting our tickets to the Knicks game and on game day we walked 4 miles to/from watching the Knicks game. Despite the Knicks loss to the Nets, I did a 4 mile walk in a day and it felt good. I’m so ready for my 5 mile walk! :o)

    • Hey Keta, That’s awesome, I walked so much while we were in New York. I might have lost a little weight if it weren’t for Amy Ruths soulfood restaurant!
