I know that I promised everyone that I was going to start my 5K to 10K podcast this summer.  I can’t believe school is about to start already which means “summer” is almost over!  I would love your suggestions for what songs really help you during a workout or a run.  I usually try to put a little 80’s , and little pop/rock, top 40’s songs, a little rap, and a cool down in each week.  Please list your suggestions below in the comments. Put both the Song Title and Artist, and I’ll check it out.  All of your input is appreciated, because I’m doing it you guys!  I hope to be in the studio within the next week or so.   Have a great weekend.  And of course Happy Running!

  1. Read my Mind by The Killers

  2. Ok Jen! I like it. It’s got a good vibe.

  3. Waka Waka by Shakira. It’s my cool-down after the cool down and always leaves me feeling inspired!

  4. “I Run for Life” by Melissa Etheridge. It is a great song and with Breast Cancer awareness month coming up it would be good timing. It is my anthem song when I feel like quitting since it reminds me there are other women who do not have the health or luxury to be able to run

  5. “Can’t Stop This Thing We Started” by Bryan Adams is pretty great.
Also, it’s kind of unknown, but “The First Day” by Todd Carey has a fantastically motivating message in it.

  6. I am so excited you are going to be working on this.. I was trying to create my own playlist and have been struggling with Audacity. I hate watching my time because it makes the run seem so much longer and harder. I am going to do a few weeks of w9 of your orginal list because I have been kind of lazy lately :oP

Personally, I love good hip-hop when I am running. The beat just seems to go so well with my pace. I put alot of P-Diddy, TI, Biggie, LL Cool J, and the likes. I also love running to Lady Gaga.

  7. Keep up the good work chick, alot of people are looking forward to your bridge to 10K. Here are a few of my fav songs to run to (I know, I know, a very strange combination…)

The Way You make me Feel – MJ
    Anything by MJ

  8. SD – I love running to MJ too! Especially his older tunes.
You definitely want to include some Black Eyed Peas in the bridge. Boom Boom Pow gets me going, and the Will.I.AM/Usher song OMG is really good for a run. I am inspired to get some tunes together now and make soem playlitss

Music that is fun for running:
    OMG – Usher/Will.i.am

  12. Micah, I like to throw in a few with good motivating messages. Thanks!

  13. Lorin, glad to see you’re still checking me out! Wonderful Wonderful Playlist! I love ’em all.

  14. SD, I like to mix it up, and appeal to more people, and Of course there will be plenty of MJ! And I can throw in a little bit of Ms. Winehouse, as my Granny would say “bless her heart”

  15. Melanie, Glee sounds like fun! I think the most Common 5k to 10K plan is here: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/5k.html but, I’m going to create my own to go with my podcasts. It will be similar. Once I write it up, I’ll post it.

  18. Hi Carli,
I’m SO happy you’re going to do a 10k podcast (will it be the “bridge to 10k” for c25k graduates?). I don’t really like the “inspirational message songs, but ratheranything with a good beat to run to. I prefer hip hop (which is what brought me to your podcats). Biggie, Puff, Jay-Z, Outkast, Eminem. Also, some pop songs are great too (Justin Timberlake, Black Eyed Peas).

I also have one random “power” song that gets me pumped to run: Rollin’ by Limp Bizkit.

Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  19. So happy to hear you’ll be doing the next level!

I’ve found a couple of great motivating tracks from Gnarls Barkley’s The Odd Couple – Moving On (trk 3) and Run (trk 4).

  20. I like
    “Souled Out” by Hezekiah Walker
    “Freedom Song” by Mandisa
    “Dance, Dance, Dance” by Mandisa
“How Much” by Mandisa (for a cool down)
“The Definition of Me” by Mandisa
“Still in Love” by Kirk Franklin
“Love Somebody” by Mandisa/Toby Mac/Diverse City
    “Ride” by Stacie Orrico
“Cover of a Magazine” by PureNRG

Just a few I enjoy listening to. 🙂

I just finished week 2 on Friday so looking forward to downloading week 3 and starting that on Monday! Thank you so much!!!

  21. I just finished C25k and ran in my first 5k today. I’m hooked and want to do a 10k next. Have you started these podcasts or am I missing them? Thanks!

  22. Thanks so much for your podcasts. I’m starting on week 6. I’ve run a few 5ks but needed a structured program to get my time down. I’m really looking forward to the 10K podcast as I’ve signed up for the Go St Louis 10K in October. I’m running in the Cardinals 6K at the end of the month.

My song suggestion: “Kryptonite” by 3 Doors Down
    Thanks again!!

  23. Hi Carli,

Would you consider making a post-run stretch podcast? I kinda know the stretches I’m supposed to do, but probably don’t hold them long enough, or stretch one leg for longer than the other. Being talked through the stretches with some chill-out tunes would be great.

  24. Louise, you guys certainly aren’t shy about asking for what you want. I can’t promise it, but I’ll certainly think about it! I can’t help but wonder if anybody really wants to hear from me after I’ve made them run for several miles.

  25. Tina, you live in STL?! Wow! I didn’t know that the Cardinals were having a race, I did the All-Star 5K last year. I so wanted to do the Go StL 10K, but I’ll be out of town. Good luck!

  26. Christine, my 10k podcast is in the very beginning stages, I’m gathering the music, and writing up my vocals. I have some studio appointments scheduled. So, it’s definitely a work in progress. It’s also a very long process, b/c I don’t like to create junk. So in the midst of working, working out, and blogging, I’m going to squezze it in! So just keep checking me out. Thanks!

  27. Lelia, I feel you girl, I know I need to add a little Jesus to the mix. I try to make it appeal to the masses, but I might just sneak in a gospel song or 2.

  28. Solrun in Iceland, that’s like a whole week of music, I’ll check out the ones I haven’t heard before. Thanks for your ideas!

  29. Carli:

Yes, I live out in St. Charles so I was really excited to find your site being a local gal and all.

The Cardinals are having a 6K on Aug 29th with the proceeds going to Cardinals Care, their organization that provides funds for kid programs in the area. There’s a $150 minimum fundraising goal. The finish line is at home plate inside the stadium…I can’t wait!!

    Thanks again!

  41. Jennifer, There will plenty of the Black Eye Peas, and I added some No Doubt, good sugguestion! Thanks.

  42. ty Carli you rock and without your podcast i would not be able to do this 🙂

  43. Hi Carli,
I love your podcasts! They have taken me to week 8! Hurry with the new podcasts! Have you seen the Gateway to 8K?

    http://www.runsource.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=73&Itemid=376

  44. Can we have the Here We Go Again (the one with the cool treadmill music video) please? I always picture those guys on the treadmills when I run and it takes my mind off the fact that I can’t breathe :o)

Had to go back to week 4 last week and about to start week 5. That’ll teach me to give up!

    Thanks Carli x

  45. Kirsty, thats the right attitude, never give up, don’t stop trying. I like that song too. I”ll add it to the playlist.

  46. Shelly, I had not seen this plan before. Thanks for the link. As I continue to create my own 10k plan, I’m gathering information from many different sources. Thanks again!

  47. Hi Carli,

Finished Week 4, Day 1 today and feeling great. After completing today with a double jogger baby stroller, I know I can do this! When I heard you say, ‘5 minute run’ I almost turned around & went home….so happy I didn’t! Can’t wait for week 5!

Thanks so much for the great podcasts…I couldn’t have made it this far without them (down 8lbs too 🙂

    Angie

  48. Hi Carli,

Thank you for the podcast! I just finished week 8 day 2 this morning and it was great, much better than week 8 day 1. I will happily download your birdge to 10k podcast when it is available. Thank you again for the podcast and your words of encouragement throughout!

    Aubree

  49. Aubree, you’re almost done! That’s amazing. I know you had to have the right mindset and the right determination, but you did it. Please send me a pic for my Wall of Fame on race day. Happy Running! As soon as I can get in the studio, I’m ready to get started on the B210K.

  50. Angie Woot, woot! Congrats on the weight loss, and pushing that stroller, I am shocked and amazed at all you mothers who make time for your family and for yourself. I like that you didn’t give up. Keep on MOVING! 🙂

  51. Carli I have been using your podcast for 5 weeks now, i am currently on week 5 d 2 however i slacked a bit, slacked as in i did not run but i swam for 2+ hours instead, also i have boughten Jillian Michaels 2010 total body challenge, who btw is hard core, i just wanted to say thank you again bc your podcast and motivational messages has pushed me through, I would love to help you in anyway i can,

  52. Carli,
I am so excited about you compiling a 10k podcast. I just finished your c25k program and loved it. Now I want to move onto 10k’s but can’t find anything that has decent music in it. This week I am repeating week 9 and will probably continue to do so till your 10k program is ready! I never thought I could run and now I love it (well sort of!) I used to hate hearing your voice telling me to run but now you inspire me. I have recommended you to so many people . . you will be taking Australia by storm soon. Can’t wait to hear you new program . . . please be quick!!!!
    Thanks
    Rachel (over here in Australia!)

  53. Rachel in Australia! Thanks so much. Congrats on finshing the program! Whoo-hoo! Send me your pic for the Wall of Fame that’s growing all the time. As soon as I can get some studio time I’ll get started. JUST KEEP RUNNING! I’m so exicted for you!

  54. I finally made it to week 9 and I finished a 5K on the treadmill with a new personal best. Thanks for the motivation!!! Your podcast will get me through next week while we are on a cruise to Jamaica and Grand Cayman as well (just going to repeat week 9). I’m running the Go St Louis 10K on Oct 17th so I have to keep running. Thanks for all your hard work!!!!

  55. anything from the Glee soundtrack

  56. Did you complete the B210K podcasts? or start them? I will be finishing C25K this week (hooray for me) and I’d like to transition right to the B210K, but I’ll be honest……it’s all about the music and I love have it structured. Also listening to someone else’s mix of music keeps it fresh, otherwise I tend to listen to the same songs over and over.

    Thanks,
    Debbie

  57. Debbie, I started the B210K podcast, I’ve completed Week 1, I just have to sit down long enough to get it posted! It is a long process, but I’m working on it.

  58. Hey Tina, how was your 10K?! That’s so awesome that you planned ahead to actually run on vacation. Wow 🙂

  59. Well, running while on the cruise didn’t work out as expected. Very windy on the top deck and since I get motion sick easily running on a treadmill while looking at the ocean wasn’t working for me. I did run before and after the cruise though. I finished the 10K on Sunday in 1:37:37. My goal was less than 1:45 so it was successful.

Now I’m trying to decide if I’m running the 1/2 marathon in April or next October. I’m thinking October so I can work on speed and train in warmer weather. I’d love to do the marathon relay in April. If anyone else is in, let me know (it’s about 6 miles depending on the leg).

  60. Carli,
I just want to say you’re such an inspiration! I use to use the excuse that I wasn’t built for running…or the only time that I’d run was if someone was chasing me. I work for a dedicated runner who is taking on 1/2 marathons and triathalons right now. With your podcasts, what I thought would be something difficult to do (b/c I couldn’t keep my eyes of the clock) has turned out great. I’m only starting week 5 but I do believe I’m turning into a running junkie. I’m not much very fast but I am enjoying myself. And my husband, who hasn’t worked out at all the past 2 decades has begun running some too. He’s making his own plan as he goes but I am thrilled that he is getting active and getting healthy! So in an indirect way you have helped him too! Thanks again and I can’t wait for your 10k podcast to be posted. I’ve decided that I want to finish the 5k and keep going for the 10k! Thanks again for all the work that you put into your blog for the rest of us!

  61. Carli,

My daughter & I just completed the 20 minute run! I never would have thought it was possible only a few weeks ago. Just having your music & encouragement to listen to while we run, helped us achieve this goal. My daughter has already run 2 5ks, and has another one coming up in a week!!

    Avid fans,

    Stef & Tonya

  62. Hey Tina, I get a little sea sick on cruises too. Congrats on your 10K. I haven’t set a goal yet for time, I’ll have to wait until I get closer. If you do the half in April, you’ll be running with me!

  63. Stephanie that’s great! I’m happy that you were able to inspire your husband after 20 years! LOL. Keep up the good work!

  64. Stefp, It’s still funny when people refer to themselves as my “fans.” I see you ladies caught the running bug. Tell your daughter I said Hi, and congrats on making it through Week 5.

  65. Lose Yourself by Eminem! It’s a perfect 5 min warm-up song!
