My last 2 blog post title’s were Holiday/Winter songs, so I figured I’d keep it up until Christmas or until I run out of cool songs.  And believe me Baby, It’s Cold Outside.  Lately we’ve been waking up to the single digits.  Tonight they expect freezing rain!  Yay! (can you hear my sarcasm, lol) Anyway, today I did a lot of thinking and reflecting.  One of my best traits is also my worst flaw.  I’m pretty anal at times and somewhat a perfectionist.  I’m so hard on myself when things don’t go exactly to plan.  I realize, I’m not the first person to gain weight and I’m not the last.  I’m not the only emotional eater in the world (thanks for sharing!).  I’m not the only work-aholic who sometimes needs to slow down … I didn’t get home from work last night until almost 9.  All day today I stressed about a meeting I planned after work and errands that wouldn’t allow me to get the gym.  Then I realized, I have control over my schedule.  People always say they’re “busy.”  But my philosophy is that people are “busy” with what they want to be “busy” doing.  So, to my own surprise, I canceled my meeting and postponed my errands.

Tonight, I was going to be “busy” finally getting to those 5 miles that I didn’t do on Saturday. And you know what?!  I did it!  I swallowed my pride and asked the gym lady how to work the fancy little treadmill since I don’t plan on training out in the bitter cold anytime soon.   She showed me how work the TV too.  It was all downhill from there.  I turned on Minute to Win It.  That show is so fun to watch.  I caught myself cheering out loud at the goofy timed tasks.  I was so shocked that that girl put those drinking glasses with various amounts of water in a row to play Jingle Bells when tapped with a spoon, I literally almost fell off of the treadmill.  That was AMAZING!  Then The Biggest Loser Finale came on and what could be more inspiring than looking people who lost hundreds of pounds.  After about 3.5 miles I stopped for a minute to stretch and refill my water bottle.  I read my magazine during the commercial breaks.  I had to figure out how to make the treadmill bearable since we’ll become really good friends over the next few months of training for my half marathon.  And before you know it, I was done.  5 whole miles!  I wanted to jump up and click my heels together, but I figured that would be a little extreme.  So I just pumped my fist in the air and took joy in the fact that I would be able to come home and write this post.

  3. Congrats on the 5 miles…..WOOHOO!!!

  4. Go Carli! I am glad you have made your peace with the treadmill, because I hate mine. Maybe if I had a TV it would be easier. I made my decision to not use it for a while. Of course, it was 42 degrees this morning, not 2! I regretted my decision a tiny bit at 42 degrees too! Come on Christmas, when hopefully some of that cooler weather gear appears under my tree! (Yes, I know it’s cool, not cold, I have lived in much colder climates in my life). Anyway, Here’s to making progress toward your half!!

  5. Hey Girl! Sorry I haven’t made any comments lately. I have still been reading. This last sunday I jogged my 2nd half-marathon!!!! Mark was doing the full, so I was on my own. I finished in 4:16:54. Not a PR, but a victory for me to do it by myself. However, I was not alone, you were with me the whole way. You did 13.1 miles with me. Just think about all the miles you do. LOL Thank you so much for all that you do. And yes we are all human. I did the half, and I gainned 5 lbs. Go figure. But back to the grind!
    Thanks!
    Tam

  6. Thanks, Linda, It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

  7. Angela, I’m glad you said it before I could, that’s “cool” indeed. If it’s over 40 degrees, I’m definitely training outside….it makes it easier on race day if you’re used to the terrain. I’m not a winter person at all though… I can hear someone sliding on the ice outside my window, I’m praying they don’t hit my car! Well I hope you get all the Christmas goodies that you wished for.

  8. Awwww Tam! That’s so sweet! You guys are awesome! That’s great that you were able to do it without the hubby. I’m honored that I was able to “be there” with you!….. I was in a funk for a few days, but you said it best, Back to the Grind…:-)

  9. Congrats for staying on track with your half marathon training by using the treadmill. Good luck with your race! Hope you and yours enjoy a very Merry Christmas and an amazingly good 2011.

  10. Hey Kirk, there’s finally another guy on My Wall of Fame! You’re not alone anymore. LOL! I hope you have a great holiday season, and I’m planning on a great new year!
