2013: A Year in Review

This year has been awesome!

This year was huge in that I FINALLY lost some weight and developed a healthy relationship with my scale.  I only weigh myself once a week.  I did the Insanity DVD and later, I hired Dan, my personal trainer this summer. He has helped whip me into shape, I can bench press 75 pounds. I had never even done a bench press a few months ago.  He gave me a great manageable plan, with 2 food cheat days and working out 3 times a week.  Thank God, there’s no tracking or writing down or calculating anything.  I lost lots of inches off my waist, arms, shoulders and more than 30 pounds.  I was hoping to hit the 40 pounds lost range, but I hit a little plateau.  Dan told me that means that I need to add an additional workout day to keep the weight coming off.  This week we added another training day, my arms are sore from doing push ups and assisted pull-ups last night.  I’m actually doing it y’all!  I’m losing weight and feeling great!

I finished three 5K races this year.  I ran the Go Saint Louis 5K in April, the Colorful Graffiti Run this summer, and I finished the I Love Forest Park 5K race all by myself in the Fall.

One of my favorite things to do is travel.  I kicked off the 2013 in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.  In March I went to Florida to visit my Big Little Sister and my niece.  In July, I spent 5 days in my favorite town Los Angeles with my Hollywood Aunt.  In August we took a road trip down to Mississippi for my family reunion.  In October I spent a few fun days down in Atlanta, Georgia with my Lawyer friend.  And last but not least, me and my Big Little Sister are going to Las Vegas to see The Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil show Christmas Eve-Eve!  I can’t wait!!

The Couch to 5K podcast is still doing great and helping people around the world run a 5K.  This year alone, it was downloaded 33,000 times!!! Wowzers! Biggest of all, my blog turned 4 years old, and got re-designed, and I launched my first eBook called Running Into Shape: The Official 5K Training Guide.  Many people have purchased a copy, and I’m so honored to be a part of helping others become healthy.  I also created a Race Day Podcast/MP3, so that I can run with you on your Big Day!   It’s a totally free download that comes with the book.

I met a few guys, went on lots of dates, but nothing really panned out.  However, it makes for excellent material for the Dating Disasters book I’m writing! So excited to take my writing to another level.  I hope to get it published.

I have big plans for 2014.  I’d like to RUN a 10K, maybe finish another half marathon, and get out of the “Plus Size” clothes section.  I’m thinking about going to Paris!  Perhaps I’ll even launch my recipe site.   I’m so full of ideas!  I can’t wait to take you all along for the ride.

  1. You go! You’re such a huge inspiration. Paris is amazing and with all the walking, you’ll get a lot of good exercise while on vacation.

  2. Stair climbing and hiking is a sure way to lose fat in the butt quickly know what’s even better, itll be so much fun
you cannot even know it, prior to getting your perfect
butt back. Improper diet contributes to weight gain especially
at thighs and hips. Remember though, nutritious
eating is just one part with the weight loss puzzle.
In many cases, it seems, these clients are perfectly healthy.
Does it make it much less valid as you are not seeing good results as
    soon as possible.

  3. Keep it up,
    well done

  4. Whoop Whoop! Way to go, Chica! I am looking forward to the recipe blog. You post some fantastic meals!
