Overall… I LIKE IT!

weightwatchers

Even though I haven’t done a “diet” in a while, I was unconsciously subscribing to so many diet like ideas.  I’d get a burst of inspiration, eat no carbs for 2 or 3 days, and then binge on cookies and ice cream, repeat.

I joined Weight Watchers Beyond the Scale after being tired of feeling stuck in that vicious cycle. This week I was reminded of the joy of no foods being off-limits and eating foods that I enjoyed. I went to my cousin’s baby shower on Sunday, and instead of stressing all week about eating cake (yes I’ve done that, it’s sad) I just trusted the system. Well I didn’t really trust it, but I was willing to try it. I ate pretty light and high protein early in the day. When I got to the shower, I counted and tracked the chips, wings and cake. No punch, and I added fruit to my plate that I might have normally skipped over.  I avoided the fruit dip because I knew whatever it was made of was not worth the points.

I really enjoyed myself without feeling like I was “on a diet.” When I left I went to the grocery store and pulled out my Weight Watcher’s app bar code scanner to calculate points of the foods I like from Trader Joes (my post about that is coming soon.) I felt weird, like people were going to wonder why is this lady scanning everything she puts in her cart. But then I remembered, I don’t know them, WHO CARES WHAT THEY THINK.  All week I did weird things like count the number of chips I ate at the Mexican restaurant.  I made it less obvious by sitting the allotted amount of chips on my napkin instead of mindlessly grabbing handfuls from the basket.  I did more weird stuff like measure a 1/4 cup of shredded cheese and count crackers. These things seemed weird, but each task literally took like 30 extra seconds.  I’ve got 30 seconds for my health.

I first talked to my Coach and started counting smart points on Thursday.  Every food is assigned a Smart Points value based on the number of calories, fat, sugar and protien.  My official weigh in day was today, Monday.  So on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I had tons of  fruits veggies and healthy snacks, Mexican food, cake and wings, and a cookie.

I dreaded getting on the scale this morning, feeling foolish for eating sweet treats, and thinking I’d lose weight in the process.  You have to be strict and eat perfectly, no carbs, no sugar to lose weight right?  I stepped up, and I lost 2 pounds in 4 Days! I was totally shocked!  The plan actually works!  I followed the plan, tracking everything, bulking up meals with fruits and veggies, drinking mostly water.  My coach was so proud of me.  She talked about the importance of setting aside “me time.”  My me time will  be on Saturday, with BEYONCE at her Formation concert in Chicago.  I’m so excited.

Okay, Carli now Let’s Get in Formation!

P.S. Yes, I’m a proud member of the Beyhive, my namesake Carli Fierce was inspired by Sasha Fierce (Beyoncés sassy alter ego.)
