So what the heck is the 7 Mile Mall Diva? That’s me of course. We got an e-mail that LLS group training in Forest Park would be canceled due to the ice and snow. However my coach quickly sent a follow-up e-mail that we could instead train inside the shopping mall. I stayed up late on the phone, and could barely get out of bed in time for training. By the time I finally made it to the mall, I was 20 min. late. I called Coach Tina to let her know that I had arrived. This was my first time walking for exercise at the mall. It was pretty cool. They open up early just for walkers. I thought this was really nice, especially for people who don’t have a gym membership, you really don’t have an excuse not to work out, even when it’s bad weather. After about the first mile or so Coach Tina joined me. Then after the first 3 miles I went down to the first level of the mall. After the fourth mile I was really ready to shop and tired of just window shopping. My feet started to hurt before I actually got physically tired of walking. I really considered quitting after mile six. However I just told myself what’s 15 or 16 more minutes? I can handle that…. Finally I finished the seventh mile. Luckily by this time the stores had opened. I went to one of my favorite big girl stores Torrid, but I didn’t see anything that I didn’t already have or could afford. As the adrenaline started to wear off I could really feel how much my feet hurt. I’ve got really good professional walking shoes however, I think anybody’s feet will hurt after 7 miles. Even though I hobbled back to my car, I still felt like a 7 mile Mall diva!

P.S. Don’t forget that I’m training and walking to find a cure for cancer.  Please help me by donating to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training!

  1. You must have a HUGE mall to be able to get seven miles in there! Ours is tiny so I would probably get dizzy walking in circles! Good job. 🙂

  2. Nice job!!! I found my heel started huring like crazy at about the same place 7-8 miles. Turned out… I have Plantar Fasciitis. It is so painful, it felt like someone was driving a nail into my heel, and my toes were curling under.

You’ll need to get your self some slip in your shoes orthotics. I got a pair for less than $10, and it was so worth every penny. You can spend a whole lot more, but I’m pretty frugal. I started with the Dr Scholls first, before investing the big bucks. They worked wonders. I wore them for nearly a year.

Also, rolling a golf ball or tennis ball around your arch with your shoe off under your desk at work will help to massage and stretch the tendon. Good Luck, and happy walking!

  3. Jen Jen that’s hilarious! I think it was 8 laps around the first level and 6 laps around the other.

  4. Patty, I keep hearing people talk about that…I hope I don’t have it. That’s a good idea to buy an insert, now that I think about it, I always wore inserts in my shoes as a kid, because I’m so flat footed. I’ll pick up some before my workout on Saturday to see if it helps. Thanks!
