Lately, I feel like I’ve been at war with myself.  I know that probably sounds crazy but it’s the truth.  I understand that it’s physically possible for me to lose weight, but I have some sort of mental block, like I don’t really believe it.  Why is it that I will do so well, and then go right back into an “I don’t feel like eating healthy” mindset?  I don’t know, maybe I need to do some soul searching.  It’s like I’ll do just enough not to get gain all the weight back *sigh*….. Okay, enough whining… I went to boot camp tonight.  I was initially dreading it, because I was so tired from work. I’ve been really busy.  Today, I had a 2 hour meeting and a 1 hour training session, and still had to find time to get everything else done.  But anyway, I thought it about it and figured boot camp could help relieve stress and help me unwind.  The whole drive there I had this sneaky suspicion we might have to run the bleachers at track field.  And guess what?  I was right!  We started up with a warm-up jog around the track.  I was determined not to be the last one around.  I might be the biggest girl in the class, but I wasn’t the slowest and I wasn’t last.  After some abdominal exercises, Lyle said, grab your resistance bands and jog over to the bleachers.  I noticed that he gave people different bands based on their ability level.  He gave me the hard and the medium band.  At first I was excited, like wow, he thinks I can handle the hard one?   Well let me tell you…that “hard” resistance handled me during the repeated squats and bicep curls and lunges! After resistance training it was time for the bleacher run.  We had to run up and down the bleachers like you see the high football players do during training.  I definitely haven’t been in High School for 11 years and I certainly never played football.  But that didn’t stop me from doing it; I ran up and down and back and repeated.  After the bleachers, we did sit-ups and a relay race.  Finally, it was time for the cool down lap.  My shoe came untied, and I was almost last, but I had to pick up the pace.  I’ve been doing this for too long to be at the end of the pack with the new people.  After class I felt good and oddly enough I felt rejuvenated….Well, If you’re still reading this post, it’s probably because you want to know what this Biggest Loser Give Away is all about.  I’m giving away a Sculpt & Burn Kit made by The Biggest Loser.  It has a jump rope, a weighted water ball and a tape measure to track the inches you will lose.  It also comes with a poster to show you how to use everything.  It can all be yours!  All you have to do is leave a comment below with your favorite weight loss/exercise tip or quote that can help others on their journey to health and fitness.  My favorite quote is “I only feel failure when I stop trying!”  I’ll pick the winner on Thursday of next week; then I’ll send an email letting you know that you won.  Good Luck!

  1. I would love to win this giveaway! I am a huge BL fan and I love their DVDs as well. My favorite quote would have to be “Well done is better than well said.” This honestly gets me going on the days (like today coincidentally) when I can’t seem to get moving. We can talk all we want about losing weight and what exercises we plan to do and how we plan to eat but at the end of the day, getting them done is what shows results.

  2. Love me some BL! My favorite saying or reminder for eating is “Nothing tastes as good as thin feels.” For working out, it is an old quote from my high school swimming days. My coach always told us that “It takes three days to get out of shape and three weeks to get back into shape.” He would tell us this everytime one of us skipped practice. So anytime I feel like not working out because I am too tired or just don’t feel like it, I repeat it to myself to remind me that it’s not worth taking a day off. It will be that much harder the next day if I do.

  3. Hi Carli! I’ve been enjoying your podcasts for my C25K training – thank you for making them! I’m on week 6.

My favorite quote that gets me through tough workouts is “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Phil 4:13. It makes me feel like the physical pain I might be experiencing will not ever come close to the cross…and so I continue.

Also, you sound a bit discouraged in your journey right now – check out my blog – http://www.changemyblueprint.blogspot.com for a pick me up – I’m in a little bit of a plateau and have battled injury and everything these last few months, but I am persevering and learning a ton about myself through this process. Maybe something on my blog will help rejuvenate your journey! You can also see my before and “current” pics – I’m down 49 pounds but have probably anther 75 to go…

    Blessings,
    Clara

  4. Hi Carli!
I just stumbled upon your website and I am downloading your c25k podcasts, thank you for them! I love anything to help keep me motivated and moving.

I totally understand hitting that plateau and just going blah. I did that in week 8 of my workout plan (week 3 of c25k) and really had to push myself out of that funk and jump back in this week. Good luck to you!

    My inspirational quote —
The five S’s of sports training are: stamina, speed, strength, skill, and spirit; but the greatest of these is spirit.

  5. My fav i about not making excuses. I think we are all guilty of that from time to time. But looking back at when I started C25K I could have let a thousand different excuses stop me. I had to build UP to be able to do the program, and today I am running W8D3 :0)

  6. “what nourishes me also destroys me” – reminds me to step away from the ring-dings!! LOL!!!

    • Joanne, it’s like the old adage, “you are what you eat”, we too often forget.

  7. Well I’m using the quote from Bob Harper on Biggest Loser because I love it. “Finish what you started.” Anytime I either slip up with my eating or not workout I think about this and it keeps me going.

    • Cara, I like that quote, that is so important that we remember to keep going, even if we get discouraged.

  8. I like the quote from finding Nemo…. “just keep swimming, just keep swimming”…. while I know none of us are actually swimming it’s the motto that I love… just keep going no matter what!!!

  9. My favorite healthy eating quote “If you can’t taste it, don’t waste it”… works to eliminate cheese, mayo… well, just all of those high calorie fillers I don’t need.

My favorite quote to stay motivated no matter what is to end all excuses with the phrase “but it doesn’t matter”. So when I am tired, “I am so worn out, but it doesn’t matter”… When it is raining and I need to get a scheduled run in, “It looks rainy and cold out, but it doesn’t matter”… When it seems like a tough workout, “That workout is going to be hard, but it doesn’t matter”… because it doesn’t. I am going to finish the workout anyway.

  10. Your post really hit home. I have hit a wall. I was down 15 lbs and now I am down 8lbs. I have had no motiviation to work out, no motivation to always eat healthy. I am coming up with excuses. I am destroying myself mentally. I get down so many lbs and mentally all of a sudden I freeze and can’t go on. I know what I have to do. I know what it takes to be healthy, I need to eat healthy and in moderation and I need to work out. I started doing really good with the podcasts and then my knee started bothering me. Once the pain started I didn’t want to go on any further. This fall I am walking 26.2 miles for a charity event. I know that in order for me to do this I need to lose about 20lbs and get myself not only in physical shape but in shape mentally. So thank you for turning the light on tonight Carli! your post hit home! I have two quotes that I like to think of.

“Instead of giving myself reasons why I can’t, I give myself reasons why I can”. – anonymous and

You must begin to think of yourself as becoming the person you want to be.”-David Viscott

  11. I just wanted to say you are such an inspiration to me! I am actually in a rut right now, but want to start over on your Couch to 5K podcasts again. Exercising is so much easier and fun with them, so thank you for that. My favorite tip that I have heard is that when you screw up- keep going! Don’t have the attitude of well I already screwed up, so I might as well eat what I want for the rest of the day, week, month, etc. Think of it like an egg. If you drop one egg, you’re not going to just say, “well I dropped one egg, I might as well drop the other 11 eggs!” No! You clean it up and go on! I just always thought that was a pretty neat way of thinking of it.

  12. Hey Carli!
When’s your next race?? Good luck to you!!!!!!

He who is outside the door has already got a good part of his journey behind him. – Dutch proverb

“Only think of two things – the gun and the tape. When you hear the one, just run like hell until you break the other.”-Sam Mussabini

  13. My mantra I try to follow along this road to a healthier me is
    the Japanese proverb:
“Fall down 7 times, get up 8”

  14. “Running is a big question mark that’s there each and every day. It asks you, ‘Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'”
    – Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian and sub-2:12 marathoner

Keeps me going for my next run!

  15. “I did” beats “I will” anyday….. and my Papaw use to say “Can’t never could do nothn til I’ll try did” I love that one especially now…..never been a runner but here we go 😀
