On the way to work this morning, I seemed to avoid the zombie apocalypse and the giant asteroid doomed to hit Earth today according to the ancient Mayan Calendar. The Mayans were brilliant people. When I went to the Mayan Riviera in Mexico, I was amazed with their profound knowledge on astronomy thousands of years ago.
In Chichen Itza, each year during the Spring Equinox, the afternoon sun causes a shadow on a pyramid that looks like a huge snake is descending from the sky and crawling down the pyramid. When we stood in front of the pyramid and clapped our hands, a loud bird call echoed back. It was cool and kinda creepy that a 1,500-year-old pyramid could do that! My point in this brief Mayan history lesson is that yes they were smart, but somewhere we read the calendar wrong, or their prediction was off.
Since I’m still here, and you’re reading this, I think it’s time for us to make plans for next year, 2013. My first ebook called Running Into Shape: The Official 5K Training Guide will be available in January. As a free gift, I’m including an exclusive download of my brand new 5K/10K Race Day podcast/mp3. I want to be there to cheer for you on Race Day. The ebook is for new runners, or those who need a boost in their training. It’s packed full of tips and tricks that I wish I had known when I was training.
I’m also finally ready to make sacrifices and get my weight under control. I’ve tried and tried to lose weight, but seeing a counselor is helping me understand what really makes me tick. I’ve been tracking my food, and the reasons for eating at that particular time. I’ve lost 2 pounds, and to lose anything feels like a giant step in the right direction.
I’ve joined the Young Professional Ministry at church and I’ll be helping the assistant pastor with the Life Studies classes during the week. I’m also at the point where emotionally, I’m ready to be in a relationship. I think 2013 is going to be HUGE for me. What are your plans for next year?
