The other day when I was at my Mom’s house, I was showing her this blog about lady who lost weight and learned to run…you know kinda similar to my story. And there was a pic of her after one of her recent races….and my Mom casually says, “Oh, she’s a real blogger and runner.” I was so offended, thinking what am I? Chopped Liver??? Am I not a “Real blogger or runner???”….I don’t know if she was using reverse psychology or what, but it really got me to thinking. I MUST get back to serious running and training. I did some internet research, and decided, no more games, no more starting week 3 for the millionth time. I want to run a half marathon. The GO STL half marathon is in April.
I know that I’m still overweight, and training might take longer for me than someone at a healthy weight. So I’m starting now! Ironically, yesterday , I got a flyer in the mail about the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team In Training. Last year they helped raise over $850 million dollars for cancer. They give you a mentor and a coach, and you train with a team of people for 5 months. It was the perfect plan. I always need something new to motivate me. The only “catch” is you have to raise $900. I said that’s “no problem” if all my blog visitors for 1 day, donate $1 dollar, I’m done! I’ll do a big campaign and let you guys know when I start. I’ll post the details and the donation link once I get officially signed up. I’m super excited. I’m finally getting back to my running goals and helping save kids with cancer at the same time. It’s a win-win situation. 🙂
I’ll donate…. (at first I thought you needed to raise $850 million… which is way outside my budget)
I haven’t been running (sadly)… hurt my heel in late August and finally went to the MD this week…heel spur and possible plantar fachaitis (?spelling)… sucks… so I’ll move myself on a stationary bike if you get running!
… I’ll be fine by the spring or summer allegedly… sigh…. and the weather is just getting SO very nice here in new england…(cold, rain, 40 degrees..haha) …guess inside will be lovely…
Ok, Miss Carli! get moving! maybe you can do your Fierce 5 or 10K in St.Louis next year and all us fans will come and participate!!! 🙂 Helen
I am so there~in support of you that is. You can and will do it! I can’t wait to see pictures of you crossing the finish line. 🙂 Jenn
What an awesome goal to set. I just recently started the C25K and am having to repeat week 3 for the 2nd week.
I will gladly donate to say thank you for the podcast.
Hey Carli!
WTG Girl! I know you can do it. Yes, it will be a lot of hard work, but I know you can do it. I’m still a BBW (as you have seen in the sisters photo, I was the short one), but I’m going to still do my first half November 7th. I’ll be honest; I still have trouble doing week 1. But I love the music so I listen to it all the time. My asthma likes to kick my a@@ when I try to run, so I just keep wogging(walk/jog) my way along ant route.
Keep up the great work!
Luv ya!
Tammy
I think that is a wonderful goal. I will can certainly spare at least one dollar. We had friends lose their son to Leukemia last year so this is a cause that has hit too close to home for many of us. You have done such a great job with your podcasts, the music is great. I just recommended you to a friend so I believe you will have one more follower soon. I just hopped on line to download week 6! When I started I never thought I would be able to do the 20 minute run. Admittedly I only made it to 18 minutes and I just had to stop. But I’m not letting it set me back, I’m moving forward. The chill in the NH air is refreshing and I hope to reach the 5K mark for the winter sets in forcing me indoors!
Helen, I’m sorry to hear about your heel, that sucks. But you’re right, you can still do the stationary bike. The weather is going to get really “nice” here soon too. I’m taking advantage of these warm days for as long as I can, then I’ll be back at the track in the gym. That’s hilarious for me to even imagine that I have “fans” that would come to STL. I’m just a girl to likes to eat, and hopes to one day run a marathon….LOL. Thanks for your continued support.
Awww Jenn thanks! I’ll probably limp across the finish line, but as long as I run, walk, crawl whatever across the finish line, I’ll feel successful.
TexNY Queen, Don’t worry about having to repeat a week, my motto is do it ’till you get it right. Once I get officially signed up on Tues, I’ll get the donation link set up. Thanks! Glad you like the podcast.
Tammy, I’m glad you told me which one you were! LOL, people send me group photos, and I’m like, I know y’all know what I look like, but I have no idea what any of you look like. Your half is coming up soon! I’m happy for you. Represent for the BBW’s. 🙂
JD, I love hearing where everybody is from, looks like I’m “big” on the East coast. LOL! You can repeat Day 3 of Week 5 if you need to, it’s not a race, well not yet anyway. When you cross that 20 min mark, you will feel like a champ. I’m sorry to know that Leukemia effected you personally, but it also makes me feel better about joining the Team in Training will help people fight the disease. Good Luck, and I hope to see you on my Wall of Fame real soon!
Hey Carli,
You def have my support and can’t wait to see pics of you reaching that finish line!!!
Linda
Thanks Linda, One of my main motiviations is the pic of me crossing that finish line!
So awesome! I found your blog a few months ago looking for the c25k podcasts because, like you, I had 6+ months to train for a half marathon that I signed up for. Today is officially 3 months till my race and i’m going steady at 6 miles, hoping to push for 7 tomorrow! I’ve heard great things about Team in Training, I’m sure you’ll do fabulous!
Blair you’re well on your way! The farthest I’ve ever even walked is 6 miles. Thanks for the encouragment!
